Who I'd like to meet...

I would like to meet anyone that believes in the rights of women. I would like to meet women that have independent minds and have learned to think for themselves.

Heroes

My hero is myself and all of those how have helped me learn and grow. Any woman can be a hero if she simply lets go of living in a shadow and embraces her intellect.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like rational creatures, instead of flattering their fascinating graces, and viewing them as if they were in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone. I earnestly wish to point out in what true dignity and human happiness consists. I wish to persuade women to endeavour to acquire strength, both of mind and body, and to convince them that the soft phrases, susceptibility of heart, delicacy of sentiment, and refinement of taste, are almost synonymous with epithets of weakness, and that those beings who are only the objects of pity, and that kind of love which has been termed its sister, will soon become objects of contempt.

Dismissing, then, those pretty feminine phrases, which the men condescendingly use to soften our slavish dependence, and despising that weak elegancy of mind, exquisite sensibility, and sweet docility of manners, supposed to be the sexual charac- teristics of the weaker vessel, I wish to show that elegance is inferior to virtue, that the first object of laudable ambition is to obtain a character as a hurnan being, regardless of the distinction of sex, and that secondary views should be brought to this simple touchstone.

Dear Gilbert,
Please return to me. I am lost without you, I have not heard from you since the birth of our child. I named her Fanny and she is wonderful and beautiful. She looks a lot like you. I still call myself Mrs. Imlay but I think we should make our marriage official as to not cause any confusion.
Love,
Mary

Mary,
I am sorry to say that my affections for you have died. I no longer want to be your husband and I will not claim your child. It is time for you to move on, I wish you well. Do not seek me out for I have already returned to America.
-Gilbert Imlay

Gilbert,
How could you do this to me? How could you just leave us? I cannot survive without you if you do not return to me then I will be forced to take drastic measures. My sorrow is too much; the worst part is that our beautiful daughter will have to grow up without a mother a father. The poor thing will be a wretched orphan. Please return to me and save us both.
-Mary

Mary,
I will hear no more of your foolishness. You write that women should women who succumb to sensibility are “blown about by every momentary gust of feeling,” and because they are “the predator of their senses” they cannot think rationally. “They do harm not only to themselves but to civilization.” And yet you cannot listen to your own advice. Stop your self-pity and move on. Do not write me anymore I will not respond.
-Gilbert Imlay

Dearest Mary,
I hope you are doing well. I know that we are not but a few hundred yards from one another but I do miss you dearly. I hope that you story writing is going well and I will see you at diner.
Love,
William

Dearest William,
I am doing well. Thank you so much for allowing us to keep our independence by living in separate houses but it is nice to know that you are never far away. The Polygon is beautiful and I am felling well, I can feel the baby kicking all throughout the day. I am not sure that I will be joining you for diner this night I have much work to do and do not want to be distracted.
Love,
Mary

Mary,
I see well then I will not bother you anymore. I am anxious to see you in the morning or if your mood allows it I would love to have you come to my bed tonight. I will love and cherish you always.
Love,
William

William,
Thank you for all you understanding and support you mean the world to me and I will come to you as soon as I can.
Love,
Mary
